![]() ![]() Stop-motion is practically non-existent for feature film VFX, even the practice of using miniatures is largely gone. Most TV ads use CG for characters that used to be stop-motion, like the Pillsbury Dough Boy or the Energizer Battery. But once the team saw a CG test of the T-Rex, an animator said "This is the death of stop-motion." While stop-motion wasn't erased entirely, it's waaay less common than before. (2D animation was also available.) Stop-motion was also used a lot in films - in fact, Jurassic Park originally tested with stop-motion for the dinosaurs. If you wanted to blend animation with real-life people, stop-motion was your jam. Here's an analogy for you: back before the 1980s, stop-motion was very common in TV ads.
